FAQs

Who is CQuell?

CQuell is a line of hemp-derived, dermatologist-approved products formulated for sensitive skin. Our products are developed with leading dermatologists, scientists and clinicians. CQuell products are made specifically for those with very dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis.

What does “Hemp Derived. Dermatologist Approved.” mean?

Hemp-derived simply means that a compound has been extracted from the hemp plant. Any product that contains CBD, hemp-derived terpenes or hempseed oil could be said to include hemp-derived ingredients. Yet, most CBD and hemp-based products are not formulated for sensitive skin and contain ingredients that irritate sensitive skin, including certain terpenes that are found in plants (including menthol and camphor). These products may also contain added fragrances, dyes, and untested natural ingredients that irritate sensitive skin.

By stripping away the intoxicants and irritants from the hemp plant, CQuell extracts, isolates and combines powerful cannabinoids and terpenes with established skin protecting and moisturizing ingredients to create potent formulations that are safe for even the most sensitive skin.

CQuell products have been tested on sensitive and eczema prone skin. They have been proven to be dermatologist approved, dermatologically tested, clinically tested, kind to skin, and safe for skin.

What does CQuell mean?

CQuell (pronounced see-kwel) is a combination of the letter “C,” representing the power of cannabinoid ingredients joined with the word “Quell,” meaning to soothe, representing our unique approach to calming the irritation and itch associated with dry skin. Our products contain various components of the hemp plant, including cannabinoids like CBD and hemp seed oil. CQuell products do not contain intoxicants, nor do they contain any intoxicating ingredients*.

What sort of ingredients are in your products?

CQuell products are extensively tested for safety and formulated with ingredients that have been scientifically proven.  We try to use the least amount of ingredients possible to achieve your desired effect.

We use hemp-derived CBD, other lesser known cannabinoids, colloidal oatmeal, skin protectants, and oils high in alpha linoleic acid (an omega-6 fat).

Our US-grown, hemp-derived extracts are non-intoxicating, and extensively tested to be free of contaminants including pesticides and other harsh irritants.

My child has eczema, can my child use CQuell products?

The CQuell Eczema Relief Cream contains no cannabinoids, and is safe for both adults and children. Products containing CBD and other cannabinoids don’t yet have enough data for us to provide guidance, but we are at the forefront of this research.

Do your products contain any intoxicating cannabinoids?

No.  All products are tested to ensure they contain no measurable amount of intoxicating cannabinoids.

Will CQuell products make me “high”?

Some CQuell products contain CBD, which itself is a non-intoxicating compound, so it will not get you high.

Where is your CBD from?

We source hemp only from farmers and suppliers who share our higher quality-control standards. We only source CBD from US-grown hemp.

Do you use full spectrum or isolated CBD?

We isolate each individual component to ensure purity, and then recombine in a symphony of powerful cannabinoids and terpenes that are non-irritating, soothing, and carry peer-reviewed research suggesting they are appropriate for sensitive skin. We ensure that irritants, including some harsh terpenes found in full spectrum oils, are removed from our hemp extracts.

What is the ECS Complex™?

After years of research, we have developed patent-pending combinations of ingredients including cannabinoids and soothing terpenes along with biomimetic molecules intended to soothe dry, irritated, and itchy skin. The Exclusive Cannabinoid Synergy (ECS) Complex refers to these powerful combinations of ingredients for sensitive skin.

What are your “never use” ingredients?

We never use harsh terpenes, masking fragrances, dyes, lanolin, parabens or formaldehyde.

What sort of testing do you do?

CQuell performs a variety of safety and efficacy testing. All products undergo multiple safety studies before they are sold. Products are further studied for efficacy through our advisory board and clinical partners. Raw ingredients are subject to inspection and analytical testing to ensure that they meet our quality standards and don’t contain unwanted contaminants. Each finished batch is 3rd party lab tested for pesticides, mycotoxins, metals. We also test for potency to verify CBD and other cannabinoid content. Test results for each production batch can be found here: https://www.cquell.com/pages/quality-documents

I see that you use petroleum and silicone based products in some of your formulas, why?

Petrolatum and silicones have some of the best long-term clinical data as non-irritating skin protectants, emollients, and barriers for sensitive skin. Patient groups, such as the National Eczema Association, approve of these ingredients when formulated correctly. CQuell only utilizes pharmaceutical grade (USP) petrolatum and safe, non-cyclic silicone ingredients. Our natural extracts and pharmaceutical grade ingredients meet "clean" criteria.

What do you mean by “responsibly sourced” ingredients?

The health and well being of our employees and communities are at the forefront of everything we do. From this we invoke thoughtfulness in the design and formulation of our products including the sourcing of ingredients that comprise our products.  We perform annual audits on our suppliers to ensure their standards and practices meet our internal standards for reliable and responsible stewardship of quality products.  Our robust quality system requires every lot of raw material being used in our products to be inspected, tested, and validated against the manufacturer’s certificate of analysis for authenticity and quality purposes.

Furthermore, in the under-regulated marketplace for CBD, we’ve placed an even greater emphasis on fully understanding and controlling the sources of our hemp-derived ingredients. We only work with domestic suppliers for cannabinoids and cannabinoid rich oils and visit them at least once a year for a physical inspection of their operations in addition to the same annual audit we conduct on all of our suppliers. Our hemp ingredient suppliers adhere to strict good manufacturing practices (GMP) and have been inspected and certified by independent third party audit programs for their quality management systems.  Every lot of incoming hemp-derived ingredient must be accompanied by a certificate of analysis which is confirmed through third party analytics before its released for manufacturing.  Hemp derived ingredients include cannabidiol, hemp seed oil, as well as associated polyphenols and terpenes.

Where can I buy your products?

You can purchase all products here, on our website, and with select retailers. If you are a retailer and would like to carry CQuell products in your store, please contact us.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is one of 80+ naturally occurring cannabinoid compounds found in the hemp plant.

Is hemp oil the same as CBD oil?

Typically, hemp oil refers to the activated hemp extract (an extracted oil, similar to an essential oil) from hemp flowers and stalks. In a full-spectrum, unprocessed hemp extract, you will find CBD along with the other terpenes and cannabinoids that existed in the live plant and the dry fibers that remain behind are discarded.

Due to the popularity of CBD, however, marketing practices have made things confusing as some brands use the term “hemp oil’ to refer to the oil extracted from hemp seeds (and not the flowers and stalks). Hemp seed oil can be a beneficial ingredient in skincare formulations, but it typically does not contain any measurable quantity of CBD.

Products that contain CBD should list the amount (either in milligrams or in percent concentration) on the container and should provide 3rd party testing to verify this amount.  On our product ingredient labels, hemp seed oil is listed as “hemp seed oil” while the oils that contain cannabinoids are listed as “hemp oil”.
